A carpenter is a skilled tradesperson who constructs and repairs structures made from wood, drywall and other materials. Carpenters may work in the construction of residential homes, commercial buildings, or industrial structures. They are often responsible for the framing, installation of doors and windows, installing cabinetry and trimming out rooms.
Carpenters must be knowledgeable in the use of tools such as saws, drills, routers, planes and hammers. They also need to be able to read blueprints accurately and determine appropriate layout techniques needed for proper installation of materials. In addition to these practical skills carpenters must possess excellent problem solving abilities in order to figure out solutions when issues arise on the job site.
